like others before me, i have the gift of sight,
but the truth changes color depending on the light.
and tomorrow can be clearer than yesterday.
memory is the selection of images,
some elusive,
others printed indelibly on the brain.
each image is like a thread,
each thread woven together to make a tapestry of intricate texture.
and the tapestry tells a story
and the story is our past.
people are going to continue to watch these shows. it’s life imitating art - the way the world (myself included) has gravitated towards these negative shows. VERY reminiscent of house of stairs (by william sleator) - eye opening book especially in today’s dystopian society. they keep doing the dance, the audience keeps feeding them and vice versa. when are we going to, collectively, expect MORE/BETTER/RESPECT/CLASS/INTELLIGENCE/… ?
lynchings, beatings, castrations, and more lynchings.
it almost surpasses human understanding,
how a people can be so socially despised, and yet artistically esteemed.
so degraded,
and yet culturally influential.
so ostracized,
and yet a dominant editorial force in american life.
